The Stashers Modular Insulated Adventure Bag (Large) is a unique bike luggage idea for carrying long cylindrical loads on a wide variety of bikes. It is made from durable materials in a variety of colors, making it perfect for your cycling gear.
Today, bicycle luggage tends to fit one of two designs: a bag attached to a rack at the front or rear, or a bag strapped to or attached to a bicycle frame. The former requires attachment points, adding weight and bulk, while the latter usually takes time to attach, can be affected by frame angles, and is often limited in size.
The Stashers range of bags don’t require a shelf, but they don’t have to match frame size either. Available in two lengths, three or four sizes of beer beverage cans, they are designed to fit a standard 3″ water bottle load. The large size considered here is a regular wine bottle plus a large can, or four standard cans. Or a very large (18-inch) baguette.
Available in £40, £50 and £60 sizes, from small to large, in orange, green, black and camouflage. The tested orange gets a lot of marks over time, so if it’s important, choose a black that won’t show up.
The body of the bag is a dense insulating, durable, waterproof canvas fabric with a soft, removable, transparent, waterproof inner lining and a waterproof zipper.
The zipper closes tightly but is not waterproof at the junction of the two zippers so if you fill it with liquid it will leak if you turn it upside down. If you pack it in ice and place it properly, the melt water will stay in the bag until you get to your destination.
Since it is made of easy to clean food grade plastic, you can of course fill it with loose snacks, nuts, fruits, etc. Or, as mentioned, perfect for baguettes.
If you are bringing wine or cold cans, no lining is required, but it does add some insulation. How long it will keep things depends entirely on how cold they were at the start, what the ambient temperature was like, whether you’ve been in the sun, etc., but basically it’s just as good a thing as any other cool type. fabric: it will keep drinks visibly cold for hours.
The construction is stitched rather than sealed, so if you’re outside in a prolonged downpour, there’s bound to be some leakage. There is absolutely no problem showering, but it’s probably not a problem for critical electronics on long trips.
On the outside of the bag, there are four 2″ wide straps with thick Velcro to wrap around the frame or handlebar. The inside of the strap is fluffy velcro and the middle of the bag is hook and loop velcro, so your frame won’t get scratched unless sand gets caught between the bag and the frame.
Once the straps are in place, tuck the ends into the sleeves to keep things neat and secure. While there are four straps, with so many Velcro straps on hand, only two can easily fill a bag. Strap spacing and choice means you can choose which two or three straps to use if you attach the bag to the handlebar.
Velcro straps on both ends allow the ends of the bag to be pulled tight if you are securing the bag on the top tube or more likely under the top tube. This is the most likely place I see people using the Stashers package.
If space permits, you can place Stashers packs inside the frame to create a modular system of two to three packs deep, with each pack connecting to the next, allowing you to carry a total of nine cans, or two bottles and three cans. At least a good picnic.
An example of what the Stashers bag is capable of is my recent dual battery electric mountain bike expedition into the heart of the Cairngorms with a friend. I rode a £200 EVOC battery pack and loaned my friend a Stashers bag to carry his spare 625 Bosch Powertube batteries.
The 625 battery fits perfectly in a large Stashers bag, and the insulation acts as a pad to protect the battery.
Full suspension electric mountain bikes usually don’t have internal frame clearance because suspension bumps take up most of the triangle, so the Stashers bag is tied to the top tube with three straps and two end straps wrapped around the seatpost and fork steerer tube. Keep your bag upright. The battery fits snugly inside the bag, so its 3.5kg mass moves without wear or pendulum effect. If your top tube isn’t long enough to accommodate the battery, your handlebars are the next bet.
Of course, if you have front and rear racks, you can tie a Stashers bag to them, as well as frames that are as oddly shaped as hybrid stepping bikes. If you can wrap the strap, it should stay in place.
Stashers bags are almost universal and I can’t imagine one frame or handlebar wouldn’t go well with them. Even on the boom, you can tie a Stashers bag under the top and leave room for hands on the hood, boom, and even wrap under the roof if you don’t tie your Velcro finger.
Another good place for long, narrow, cylindrical loads is in a cage attached to a fork. I am a big fan of the Tailfin Cargo Cages and Stashers straps, which lock into place quickly and securely. The tested full-size bag weighing up to 3.5 kg remained stationary with the straps secured through the holes in the cage, with zero chance of slipping or loosening.
The only time I noticed any interference was when it was mounted under the top tube of my gravel bike and my knees hit the bag from time to time. It depends on the geometry of my frame, my position on the bike, the Q-factor (pedal width) and the pedal travel, i.e. The problem came when I installed the bag over the top tube.
Overall, the utility on offer is good for the £60 asking price. Other cylindrical options include the £46 CamelChops Blimp bag or Stasher’s own slightly thicker and shorter plus-size £55 bag with a maximum load diameter of 5.2 inches. But these and many similarly designed bar bags are too big to fit inside the top tube or frame.
There are thousands of styles of sculpted zipper bags ranging in price from £30 to £150 or more, but none of them fits trunks, handlebars or forks. Looking back over five years of reviews, I couldn’t find a bag that would fit the frame, handlebar, fork and luggage racks and the Stashers line.

Overall, I would say it’s very good. It’s a little heavy, it’s not 100% waterproof, and the orange outer fabric can get dirty over time (if that matters, choose black). But other than that the bag is great.
